Tucked inside the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, the Holy City of the Wichitas is a granite-built outdoor amphitheater and village complex constructed in the 1920s along Parallel Road, roughly 18 miles northeast of Lawton. It serves as the backdrop for the annual Easter Pageant — one of the largest outdoor Easter passion plays in the United States, drawing crowds of 10,000 to 15,000 over multiple nights each spring — as well as fall heritage events and private group visits throughout the year. The approach road through the refuge narrows to two lanes at the site entrance, and Easter weekend sees significant vehicular backup on Refuge Road starting two hours before showtime.
A charter bus handles your group's approach and parks in the designated oversized vehicle area at the site without competing for the limited passenger car spots that fill within the first hour. For Easter Pageant nights, booking your bus six to eight weeks in advance is the minimum — Lawton's vehicle supply thins quickly as the event date approaches.
